Agartala, Sept 13 (FD) The Congress party in Tripura has received a significant boost with the joining of 267 tribals from 57 families across the state. This development took place at the Congress Bhawan, where these individuals received party flags from Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Asish Kumar Saha and senior leader Sudip Roy Barman.
Expressing their disillusionment with regional politics and the isolationist stance of the CPI (M), the newcomers declared their allegiance to the Congress.
PCC president Asish Kumar Saha highlighted the Congress's historical commitment to tribal development, emphasizing landmark initiatives such as the TLRLR Act, special tribal development blocks, and the restoration of alienated tribal land.
Congress MLA and permanent invitee member of the party's working committee, Sudip Roy Barman, criticized the divisive politics of the BJP and its impact on Tripura's socio-economic fabric. He announced impending agitation programmes and hinted at the Congress contesting Loksabha polls independently, with permission from the party high command. FD SB
