Congress presidential elections-2022: voting for non-Gandhi president underway

Agartala, Oct 17 (FD) Along with the other parts of the country, voting process for the Congress presidential elections is currently underway in Tripura since Monday morning.
The polling process that began around 10 am will end at 4 pm and the results are likely to be declared on October 19 next, president of Tripura Pradesh Congress
Committee, Birajit Sinha said.
After 24 years the party will see a non-Gandhi president as none of the members of Gandhi family filed nomination for the post. Senior party leaders Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge are in the fray of the post of next president. The new president will replace interim president Sonia Gandhi.
Responding to a question during a press conference, the party's Tripura Pradesh leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman hailed the Gandhi family as the guardians of the party.
He said, “Gandhi family is our guardian and the contribution of the family for the country is huge.”
Whoever became the party president, Gandhi family will have the right to give advice for the welfare of the party as well as country, he added.
It is learnt that over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates across the country are casting their votes to elect the party’s new chief. After 22 years, the party is using ballot papers in the voting process.
Out of the total 64 delegates from Tripura, 32 have casted their votes so far in the Congress presidential elections, including Birajit Sinha and Sudip Roy Barman, party sources said. FD PD JK
