Agartala, Dec 29 (FD) Replying to the allegation that the central government had insulted country’s first Sikh Prime Minister, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prahlad Joshi on Sunday said the Congress did not respect to any non-Gandhi Prime Ministers.
“Not only the Manmohan Singh, the Congress never paid respects to the former Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao and former President Pranab Mukherjee”, Joshi told reporters.
He said that the Congress accusation that former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh’s last rites could be performed at a designated spot and which could be turned into a memorial instead of Nigambodh Ghat is “unfortunate and a cheaper politics of the Congress leaders”.
Joshi said, “Even as we have ideological and political differences with the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he is a respectful person. Our Union Home Minister Amit Shah had taken all initiatives for giving full state honour to the funeral of Singh. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Shah to take all these initiatives”.
He said that the Gandhi family should introspect about what they did to the non-Gandhi Congress leaders and even Bharat Ratna award was not given to P V Narsimha Rao. They also did not show proper respect to the Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel, who was the Deputy Prime Minister of the country, he added.
“Even Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter has alleged that Congress did not convene the meeting of the Congress Working Committee after the death of his father, Pranab Mukherjee”, he said.
Joshi had come to Tripura on Saturday in a two –day trip to review the works of his departments and held several rounds of meetings with the state Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury and also met the Chief Minister, Dr Manik Saha. FD JK
