Agartala, Apr 22 (FD) Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha on Wednesday accused the state government of misusing the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, alleging that financial assistance is being selectively extended to members of the BJP.
Addressing a press conference here, Saha criticised the reported decision to provide relief exclusively to BJP workers affected by post-poll violence following the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. He termed the move “unethical and discriminatory” and questioned the government’s selective approach.
“Political violence is not new in Tripura. In the past, workers of the Congress and CPI(M) have also suffered similar attacks. They too deserve assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” Saha said.
Referring to recent incidents allegedly involving attacks by Tipra Motha supporters after the ADC poll results, he said extending financial help to affected families is the government’s responsibility, but such aid must not be restricted to any particular political party.
“The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund belongs to all—ruling party members, opposition workers, and common citizens alike. It should not be used selectively,” he asserted.
Alleging that the fund is being utilised for political purposes, Saha demanded equal financial assistance for all victims of political violence, irrespective of party affiliation.
He also called for transparency and fairness in the disbursement process, urging the authorities to ensure that no affected family is excluded due to political considerations. FD JK
