Agartala, May 11 (FD) A college student in West Tripura district was allegedly gang-raped by three youths in a moving vehicle on Monday night. The woman was left alone in a critical condition near Amatali bypass and was later admitted to the G. B. Pant hospital.
The police have arrested the main accused, Gautam Sharma, and have started interrogating him. The sub-divisional police officer, Ashish Dasgupta, stated that the girl was seen moving in a vehicle with the main accused throughout the day on Monday. Later, after nightfall, taking advantage of her loneliness, he sexually assaulted her and left her near the Amatali bypass.

The Chief Minister's swift response to the incident demonstrated their determination to have a zero-tolerance policy for offences against women. Papiya Dutta, a BJP state general secretary, visited the hospital and asked about the woman's condition. She denounced the crime and urged that the perpetrators receive the harshest possible sentence. Additionally, the BJP leader pledged that both the party and the government would support the victim and her family.
The victim's mother filed a police complaint, claiming that her daughter was offered a car lift by a young man on her way back home from college and that she accepted it. The family rushed to the scene after being alerted by relatives and rushed her to the hospital, as she had fainted by then.
