Agartala, August 30 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Tuesday visited Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant hospital to see the activists of ruling BJP, who were attacked and injured allegedly by the supporters of the TIPRA Motha, a staunch tribalist party, which rule Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Police said BJP supporters who were injured in different parts of the state on Monday, when they were on their way to Khumulwng, the headquarters of the tribal council, where the national president of the saffron party, J P Nadda addressed a rally.
Chief Minister, who is also the home minister of the state asked the police to take strict action against anyone involved in the incidents, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Police said at least 25 persons were injured in scattered incidents of violence, where people en route to the rally, were attacked in different parts of the state. One of them was severely injured with head trauma and was rushed to GBP Hospital at Agartala.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha, who's a doctor himself, today visited the patients at the hospital and asked doctors to follow all necessary measures for their treatment.
Interacting with media later, Saha said, "It's shameful that such incidents of violence occured when our national president JP Nadda was here in Tripura. We have seen such violence in the past. But this violence......we have asked the police to take stringent steps. No one will be spared".
The Chief Minister also said he had travelled to Guwahati with BJP chief Nadda yesterday and had instructed officials and his party colleagues to take care of the injured persons and other steps to be taken in the aftermath of the assaults.
He returned to Agartala this morning and rushed to the hospital.
While BJP hasn't yet named anyone behind the attacks, the party's state chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty had said that "those who claim to have absolute control in the hills of Tripura" were behind the incidents.
Chakraborty's comments obliquely indicated royal scion Pradyot Kishore-led TIPRA Motha party, which is in power in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) since last year.
Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma had earlier said he welcomed JP Nadda in 'Greater Tipraland' and would wait to hear what the BJP leader had to tell tribals at the public meeting at Khumulwng.
Debbarma, had also appealed his party supporters to be peaceful centering the rally.
However, BJP said, the royal scion didn't have enough control over his party workers. FD JK
