Agartala, May 19 (FD) In a major step towards the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, the Tripura government has announced a new initiative to provide coaching for competitive exams such as TCS, TPSC, and IT-related courses. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during the 29th meeting of the State Sainik Board held at the State Secretariat.
Highlighting the state’s commitment, the Chief Minister directed the Sainik Welfare Department to prepare a comprehensive list of ex-servicemen interested in working in sectors like MSMEs, startups, animal husbandry, and fisheries. He also stated that a specific policy would be introduced to assist them in these fields.
A key component of the welfare plan includes the provision of social pensions to unmarried and depen
dent sons and daughters (above 18 years) of ex-servicemen and CAPF personnel who are permanent residents of Tripura. The state has allocated ₹2.40 crore in this year’s budget for this scheme.
The Chief Minister also stressed the urgent need to renovate the Sainik Rest House and expand existing welfare programs. Retired Captain (IN) Paramjit Singh, Director of the Sainik Welfare Department, provided an overview of past achievements and new proposals aimed at enhancing support for ex-servicemen.
Additional topics discussed included increasing gallantry and service award values, raising one-time ex-gratia grants, tax exemptions, expanding reserved job quotas, and developing the Integrated Sainik Complex.
The meeting was attended by MLA Swapna Das Paul, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, DGP Anurag, Secretary of Industries and Commerce Kiran Gitte, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, GAD (Political) Secretary T.K. Debnath, and several ex-servicemen. FD SB
