Agartala, May 6 (FD) Administrative accountability and citizen-centric governance took center stage during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at the State Secretariat. The meeting, conducted under the Task Monitoring System (TMS), brought together District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from all eight districts through a virtual platform to assess the progress of public welfare schemes and overall administrative performance.
During the session, the Chief Minister underscored that governance must remain firmly rooted in public service, urging all departments to stay constantly alert and proactive in resolving citizens’ grievances. He emphasized that officials must remain fully aware of their departmental functions and responsibilities, rather than relying on external sources for updates.
A significant portion of the discussion focused on improving traffic management and maintaining law and order. Instructions were issued to ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly in Agartala and district headquarters, by monitoring overloaded vehicles and ensuring uninterrupted functioning of electronic traffic signals. Authorities were also directed to expedite the construction of motor stands.
Addressing the issue of drug control, the Chief Minister called for strict vigilance, especially along railway routes, and enhanced night patrolling in vulnerable areas. He stressed the need for transparency and proper functioning in institutions such as nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and sub-registry offices.
In the health and education sectors, precautionary measures were advised to prevent seasonal diseases like diarrhoea and dysentery, particularly in Dhalai district. The meeting also reviewed hospital management, generic medicine availability, and the quality of mid-day meals in schools, alongside maintaining discipline in the academic environment.
On infrastructure, emphasis was placed on timely and quality road repairs, while officials confirmed near-complete restoration of electricity systems damaged by recent storms. The Chief Minister also reiterated the importance of timely wage payments under MGNREGA.
Concluding the meeting, he stated that continuous vigilance, responsibility, and commitment to duty are essential to sustain development momentum and ensure efficient governance for every citizen. FD JK
