Agartala, Aug 18: A war memorial park, which was dedicated to the Indian soldier Albert Ekka, who martyred his life to save the Agartala town from the attack of the Pakistan army in 1971, was formally inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday at Lichubagan area.
A great hero of the Indian army had fought the Pak army at Gangasagar railway station, now in Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh and foiled a well designed plan of the enemy to capture the capital city during the Indo-Pak war in 1971.
Addressing the inauguralprogramme, Dr. Saha encouraged the youths to follow the lifestyle of the brave soldiers like Albert Ekka to reach their goals.
He said, the sacrifices of Indian soldiers during 1971 India-Pakistan war would always be remembered with great pride.
Dr. Saha said the war memorial has been built in respect to the freedom fighters and those soldiers who have laid down their lives for the country.
Vinsent Ekka, son of Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Param Vir Chakra (posthumous), was present in the programme and was honoured with a memento and cheque by Agartala Smart City Limited.
MLA Dilip Kumar Das, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Director of Rajya Sainik Board- Brig (Retd.) J.P. Tiwari, Commander of Military Station, Agartala- Brig Nilesh Chowdhury, Brig Vikram Singh Guleria, DIG Assam Rifles (Agartala), Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary of Urban Development department- Kiran Gitte, Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Smart City Limited Shailesh Kumar Yadav and others were present in the programme.
The Chief Minister laid a wreath at Albert Ekka War Memorial and then unveiled the plaque at Lichubagan area.
