Agartala, Apr 18 (FD) Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha on Friday termed the failure to pass the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha as a “black day for Indian democracy,” launching a sharp attack on opposition parties.
In a strongly worded statement on social media, the Chief Minister accused the Indian National Congress, All India Trinamool Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and Samajwadi Party, along with the INDIA alliance, of exposing what he described as a “deep-seated anti-women mindset” by opposing the bill.
Dr Saha said the failure to pass the amendment was not merely a legislative setback but a blow to the aspirations of women across the country. “It is a dark chapter in our democracy. It is not just the defeat of a bill, but the shattering of millions of sisters’ trust in a brighter future,” he stated.
Emphasising the vision of ‘Nari Shakti’, the Chief Minister alleged that the opposition had obstructed efforts toward women’s empowerment. He further warned that the political consequences of this development would be significant, asserting that women voters would respond strongly in future elections, including the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
Calling the development a turning point, Dr Saha claimed it could mark the beginning of the political decline of the opposition. FD SB
