Agartala, Nov 27 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha had a parley on Monday with A.K. Mishra, IPS (Retd), Advisor for North East Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India in his office on developments of the state’s tribal community, who are backward and constitute one third of the state’s estimated 40 lakh populations.
“We discussed various issues at length related to overall development of our Janajati Communities. I also requested him to meet Janajati leaders of all Political parties including Janajati Samajpati so as to obtain a direct perception about the socio economical and infrastructural development aspects”, he said in a social media post.
The meeting assumes significance ahead of the country’s general elections likely to be held in between April and May next year.
When the ruling BJP is gearing up for retaining all the two MP seats in the state and consolidating its organizational base, the TIPRA Motha, the main opposition in the state is trying to raise popular tribalist slogans to vacillate the tribal voters.
The ruling Hindutwabadi party is facing challenges in the tribal reserve East Tripura seat as the Left Front, which had once supreme command among the tribals is also trying to woo the voters from the state’s indigenous population. FD JK
