Agartala, July 24 (FD) Reaffirming the Tripura government's vision of transforming Agartala into one of the most modern and citizen-friendly cities in the Northeast while preserving its rich cultural and historical heritage, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated a series of people-centric development projects undertaken by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in the state capital.
Addressing a large gathering after inaugurating the projects, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to developing Agartala into a clean, green, healthy, technology-driven and accessible city through transparent governance and quality public services. He emphasised that improving the quality of life of citizens remains the government's primary objective.
Dr. Saha said an advanced Tripura can only be achieved through the simultaneous development of modern cities and progressive villages. He announced that digital governance would be further strengthened not only in Agartala Municipal Corporation but across all municipal bodies in the state to ensure faster, transparent and efficient delivery of government services.
"The welfare of the people is our government's foremost priority. Honest intention and dedicated work are the foundations of development. Because of this commitment, development projects are being implemented across every corner of Tripura, including Agartala," the Chief Minister said.
Highlighting the importance of teamwork, he urged government officials, employees and elected representatives to work collectively to ensure timely and transparent implementation of all projects under the Agartala Smart City Mission and other developmental initiatives.
Dr. Saha also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always believed in delivering results through action, and the Tripura government is following the same approach by focusing on visible development that directly benefits citizens. He said true success is achieved only when people experience improvements in their daily lives and appreciate the government's efforts.
The Chief Minister highlighted the remarkable progress made under the Agartala Smart City Mission, stating that 65 development projects worth approximately Rs. 581 crore have already been completed. To address the longstanding problem of waterlogging, the government has developed an advanced drainage system while renovating and beautifying 24 ponds at a cost exceeding Rs. 137 crore.
He further informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, nearly 79,878 permanent houses are being constructed across the Agartala Municipal Corporation area and other municipal regions with an investment exceeding Rs. 1,292 crore. An additional 4,300 houses will also be provided under the scheme. The Agartala Light House Project is also constructing modern flats for economically weaker families.
During the programme, Dr. Saha inaugurated the Sabuj Sena Chandinimura Waste Transfer Station, officially launched the Aamar Agartala App, and dedicated the 51 Mini Vehicle Project to strengthen solid waste management. He also handed over advanced mosquito-control smoke cannons to municipal workers to improve public health services.
To further enhance sanitation infrastructure, the Chief Minister flagged off 51 newly introduced waste transportation vans that will strengthen door-to-door waste collection and ensure cleaner surroundings across the city.
Calling upon citizens, clubs and social organisations to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and creating a drug-free environment, Dr. Saha said public participation is essential for building a healthier and more sustainable Agartala.
Presiding over the programme, Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder said the Municipal Corporation is implementing development projects in line with public expectations. He highlighted improvements in drinking water supply, drainage infrastructure and mosquito control measures over the past few years.
Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta attended the programme as guest of honour, while Urban Development Department Director Tamal Majumder was present as special guest. Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Vaheed A. delivered the welcome address.
The newly inaugurated projects are expected to significantly strengthen urban infrastructure, sanitation services, digital governance and environmental management, further advancing Agartala's journey towards becoming a modern, smart and sustainable city. FD SB
