Agartala, Aug 15 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha honoured police officers and personnel who received prestigious national awards for their dedicated, honest and distinguished service during the Independence Day celebrations at Assam Rifles Ground.
The awards recognised officers and personnel for their commitment, professionalism, efficiency and exceptional contributions to the Tripura Police. The Chief Minister presented certificates and medals to several recipients whose names had been approved for different categories of national honours.
For Distinguished Service, President’s Police Medal was awarded to Tripura’s in-charge Director General of Police, G.S. Rao. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha personally presented the certificate and medal to the senior police officer.
President’s Police Medals for Meritorious Service were also presented to Superintendent of Police Vijay Debbarma, Superintendent of Police Maniklal Das, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Debbarma, SDPO Pannalal Sen, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamal Debbarma and Subedar Niranjan Debbarma of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 8th Battalion.
Among other recipients honoured for meritorious service were DIGP (Northern Range) Ratiranjan Debnath, Subedar Pashuram Debbarma of TSR 1st Battalion, Havildar Dilip Kumar Singh of TSR 5th Battalion, Special Branch Constable Dhruva Kapali, Police Training Academy Constable Uttam Debnath and North District Constable Hemendra Chandra Nath. The Chief Minister presented medals and certificates to the awardees.
Sub-Inspector Buton Jamatia was also recognised with the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence, acknowledging his professional performance and contribution to policing.
The Independence Day programme also recognised NCC cadets and student leaders who participated in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi last year. The awardees included Senior Under Officer Salka Debbarma of NCC 13 Tripura Battalion, Senior Under Officer Joydeep Saha of NCC 15 Tripura Battalion, Under Officer Sagarika Majumdar of NCC 13 Tripura Battalion, Under Officer Krishna Baishnab of NCC 15 Battalion, Cadet Sahit Debbarma of NCC 13 Tripura Battalion and Cadet Akash Jamatia of NCC 15 Tripura Battalion.
During the ceremony, the names of police officers and personnel who have been approved for various medals by the President of India for the 2026 Independence Day celebrations were also announced. These newly selected awardees will receive their certificates and medals during the 2027 Republic Day celebrations.
The ceremony highlighted the government’s recognition of dedicated public service and the important role played by police personnel and young NCC members in strengthening discipline, professionalism and national service. FD SB
