Khowai, July 30 (FD)Â Reaffirming the Tripura government's commitment to strengthening the education sector and accelerating infrastructure development, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday laid the foundation stones for three major educational infrastructure projects worth Rs. 25.35 crore at the premises of Baijalbari Higher Secondary School in Khowai district.
The projects include the construction of a three-storey academic building at Baijalbari Higher Secondary School and two-storey school buildings at Ratanpur and Boro Moydan schools, aimed at improving educational facilities and creating a better learning environment for students.
Addressing a large gathering, the Chief Minister said the present state government has placed the highest priority on education, modern infrastructure, healthcare, sports development, tribal welfare, and women’s empowerment. He stated that development initiatives are being implemented across every corner of Tripura to ensure equitable growth and improved public services for all sections of society.
Dr. Saha informed that development projects worth approximately Rs. 327 crore have already been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid during the current financial year, reflecting the government's commitment to sustained progress across the state.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining peace and stability, the Chief Minister said the state's improved law and order situation has significantly accelerated the pace of development. According to him, industrialists and business leaders from different parts of the country are showing increasing interest in investing in Tripura, with the government extending full cooperation to facilitate new investments and employment opportunities.
He emphasized that development activities are being carried out without political discrimination, ensuring that every citizen benefits equally. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of human resource development, Dr. Saha said the state government is modernizing educational institutions by improving infrastructure and encouraging the use of technology in classrooms.
Speaking on sports development, the Chief Minister noted that synthetic football turfs, open gyms, and sports equipment have been provided in various parts of the state to encourage youth participation and promote a healthy lifestyle.
On women's education and empowerment, Dr. Saha highlighted several initiatives aimed at reducing school dropout rates among girls and preventing child marriage. He said the government has already distributed 1.22 lakh bicycles to girl students and plans to distribute another 41,000 bicycles in the coming phase. He also mentioned that college fees for female students have been waived and that the government has announced plans to upgrade the existing Women's College into a Women's University.
Discussing welfare measures for tribal communities, the Chief Minister said residential schools and hostels have been upgraded, student stipends have been enhanced, and financial assistance is being provided for higher education. He informed that Tripura currently has 21 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and that the state has requested the Central Government to sanction additional institutions. Boarding facilities are also being developed in tribal-dominated areas to improve educational access.
MLA Ranjit Debbarma, addressing the programme, said the present government has maintained consistent development across all sectors, benefiting people from every section of society.
The welcome address was delivered by Khowai District Magistrate Rajat Pant. Among those present were MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singh Roy, MDC James Debbarma, Education Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke, and Khowai Superintendent of Police B. Jagadishwar Reddy.
The programme commenced with a tree plantation drive, where the Chief Minister and other dignitaries planted saplings, symbolizing the government's commitment to sustainable development alongside educational progress.
Dr. Saha reiterated that the government's vision of "Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura, Viksit Tripura" is steadily becoming a reality through continuous investments in education, public infrastructure, and inclusive development, ensuring a brighter future for the state's younger generation. FD SB
