Agartala, July 31 (FD) Tripura government today went a step ahead to distribute potable water to the dwellers of the capital city by launching the AMRUT 2.0 Scheme.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha launched the AMRUT 2.0 Scheme at Bhattapukur area here and announced the commencement of the construction of 31 iron removal plants and the installation of 258 km long treated water pipelines.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to deliver good governance and acknowledged the support received from both the central and municipal governments, particularly from Prime Minister Modi.
This project aims to provide free water connections to around 16,224 families in the city.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to distribute drinking water Dr. Saha urged the people to actively participate in water conservation efforts and adopt measures to prevent wastage.
He also said that government engineers have launched innovative techniques of successfully storing water from canals in dams, purifying it, and distributing it to hilly areas, besides distributing water from deep tube wells installed in different regions to address water scarcity.
The Chief Minister stated that the 'Har Ghar Jal' initiative has shown remarkable progress, reaching around 64% completion from its initial coverage of 3%. The government remains committed to achieving 100% water coverage, with an investment of Rs. 112 crore dedicated to the project. This investment will include the installation of 47 tube wells, an Iron Removal plant, and a 258 km long water purification pipeline.
Furthermore, Dr. Saha expressed the government's dedication to the state's overall development by allocating Rs. 500 crores for the Mukhyamantri Satellite Town scheme over the next five years. Additionally, funds have been set aside for a Sewage treatment plant to address environmental concerns.
In the realm of tourism, the Chief Minister highlighted the recent inauguration of the 'Weekend Tourist Hub' and the allocation of Rs. 8.45 crore for Solar High Mast Lighting systems in 19 cities across the state. This indicates the government's emphasis on promoting tourism and enhancing infrastructure for better public facilities. FD JK
