Agartala, June 2 (FD) Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday announced that the historic Pushpabanta Palace, the former official residence of the Governor of Tripura, has been handed over to a leading hospitality company for its transformation into a high-end heritage hotel.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme organized by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) at Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan, Dr. Saha said the project would result in the establishment of an ultra-modern luxury hotel equipped with world-class amenities while preserving the architectural and historical essence of the royal palace.
The Pushpabanta Palace, constructed during the reign of Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya (1909–1923), is one of Tripura’s most significant heritage landmarks. The Chief Minister emphasized that despite its conversion into a premium hospitality destination, the structure would retain its original character and continue to reflect the grandeur, heritage and royal legacy of the erstwhile princely state.
Responding to questions from journalists, Dr. Saha also confirmed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura on June 4 and 5. During his stay, Shah is expected to tour several areas along the India-Bangladesh border and review the prevailing security arrangements.
“The Home Minister will visit border areas and assess measures required for strengthening border management through a more scientific and technology-driven approach so as to effectively curb illegal infiltration, including the entry of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas,” the Chief Minister said.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Saha attended a TCA programme as the chief guest at Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan. The event was also attended by TCA President and former Chief Engineer Tapan Lodh.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister distributed 100 cricket kits among young players and encouraged them to excel in the sport. The kits were sponsored by the State Bank of India (SBI). In addition, eight more cricket kits were distributed by the TCA through the Chief Minister.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from players, officials and sports enthusiasts, reflecting growing interest in cricket across the state. FD JK
