Agartala, Jan 2 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the 43rd Book Fair at the fairgrounds on Thursday and urged people to buy books.
“There was a time when people used to buy books as gift items, but this practice is not prevalent anymore. We have seen books being gifted during marriage ceremonies in the past. If people purchase more books and use them as gifts, it would also inspire writers,” he said.
Dr. Saha mentioned that the sale of books has increased compared to earlier times, indicating a growing interest in reading.
“Although people can read books online, I have observed that book sales are on the rise. Guardians should also encourage their children to read more books,” he added.
Publishers from Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata have participated in the fair; however, no publishers from Bangladesh are present this time.
Government officials stated that the administration has arranged 18 awards to be distributed during the fair. FD JK
