Agartala, Aug 14 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday addressed a programme commemorating the horrors of Partition and celebrating the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign at the Rabindra Hall of Maharaja Bir Bikram College (MBB College), emphasizing the importance of remembering the country’s painful history while working towards a stronger and developed India.
Speaking at the programme, Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that the three colours of the national flag carry the stories of the selfless sacrifice and dedication of thousands of freedom fighters. He said the significance of Independence is not limited to celebration, as it also reminds citizens of the tragic history of Partition and the suffering caused by the division of the country.
Dr. Saha stressed that forgetting the past can obstruct progress in the present and future. He urged students and young people to understand the horrors of Partition and learn lessons from the events that created deep social and religious divisions.
According to the Chief Minister, religious sentiments were manipulated during Partition to divide society, creating an atmosphere of distrust along religious lines. People across communities suffered the consequences of the division. He said observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is therefore important for ensuring that future generations understand the consequences of hatred and division.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the emotional connection between citizens and the national flag. He said the Tiranga represents the pride of the nation and continues to remind people of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle. Despite various challenges faced by the country after Independence, he said, the love and respect of citizens for the nation have remained unchanged.
The Chief Minister recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Har Ghar Tiranga programme in 2022 to strengthen patriotic sentiment among citizens. He said the initiative created a strong wave of patriotism among people, particularly students and youth, and emphasized that nurturing this sentiment among future generations would help strengthen the country.
Dr. Saha said India is moving towards becoming a Viksit Bharat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He added that the development of the nation depends on the development of individual states and expressed confidence that Tripura is also progressing towards becoming a developed state.
Nabendu Bhattacharya, Chairman of SMCC, attended the programme as the guest of honour and spoke about the historical background of Partition. MBB University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bibhas Deb, Higher Education Department Director Animesh Debbarma and Teachers’ Council Secretary Dr. Nilima Biswas were also present.
MBB College Principal Dr. Arjun Gope delivered the welcome address.
As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga programme, a Tiranga rally was also organized from the premises of MBB College, adding a strong patriotic dimension to the commemoration. FD SB
