CM declares zero-tolerance against drugs and anti-socials

Agartala, May 03 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday has declared a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and anti-social activities in the state.
Addressing an event organized by NSS here, Chief Minister urged the people of Tripura to identify and expose drug dealers and troublemakers in society. He stated that some individuals at the international level are attempting to destroy the state's youth through the use of drugs, leading to an alarming increase in HIV/AIDS and hepatitis cases.
Dr. Saha called for a united movement against drug peddlers and miscreants, emphasizing the need to identify individuals involved in selling drugs and creating disturbances, particularly within schools and colleges. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of unity in countering such elements and assured that stringent action would be taken against drug kingpins by the Tripura Police.
He also appreciated the role of NSS volunteers in responding to natural disasters and encouraged them to raise awareness about the destructive impact of drugs on society, aiming to safeguard the youth.
The Chief Minister said, NSS was formed with 600 volunteers of 6 schools in the state in 1976. Presently, there are 389 NSS unit in the state with 34 thousand 300 volunteers. Apart from that, NSS unit has 6 self funds with 600 volunteers. He said, the NSS volunteers have stood time after time whenever the state faced any natural calamity. The Chief Minister hoped that these NSS volunteers shall continue to do the same in future. He said, the NSS volunteers must take the responsibility in building a healthy society. They must play a vital role in building a Drug Free Tripura, responding the call of the state government. Besides, awareness must be generated so that everyone could strongly stand against drug dealers. The Chief Minister said, donating blood is a noble deed, which is greater than any form of donation.
