Agartala, March 19 (FD) Tension prevailed in some parts of Kailashahar, the headquarters of Unakoti district following an altercation and subsequent clashes between two groups of contractors of the Water Resource Development Department (DWS).
The situation turned for the worse when a motor bike was set afire. Senior police officials including the Sub-divisional Police officer of the Kailashahar had to rush to the scene with a large contingent of Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
The contractor’s firm alleged that some officials of the DWS had supported the contractor mafias and created problems in their works.
They alleged that despite receiving the work orders they were not given the location of the work sites or any project details. Initially the officials said that the work site would be in Kailashahar, but later they stated that it is in Ambassa in Dhalai district.
However, the contractors did not find any work-site at Ambassa and also did not find any DWS employees there and later they also came to know that the Executive Engineer was on leave.
The contractors alleged that some DWS officials had insulted them for not paying Rs. 20 lakh as bribe and a minister from Kailashahar was backing the mafias there.
Police said, there have been deployments of security personnel to ease any kinds of tension there. FD JK
