Agartala, May 6 (FD) A Civil Defence drill will be conducted tomorrow at 4 PM in West Tripura district, in coordination with a nationwide initiative. This was announced today by the District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, Dr. Vishal Kumar, during a preparatory meeting held at the video conference hall of the District Administration Office.
The meeting reviewed key discussions and insights from a recent national-level conference organised in New Delhi by the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence, and Home Guards, under the Ministry of Civil Defence. Officials from various departments including Police, Education, Health, and Youth Affairs participated in the preparatory session.
Dr. Kumar informed that the main drill will take place at Umakanta Ground in Agartala, featuring a coordinated civil defence exercise. Participants will include Civil Defence Wardens, Home Guards, NCC, NSS, NYKS volunteers, students, teachers, and healthcare workers. The goal is to train citizens on effective wartime response and safety protocols.
He emphasized that such preparedness is vital, especially for northeastern states which may also be vulnerable in times of conflict. The District Magistrate urged all officials to attend and support the drill to ensure its successful execution.
In addition to the central drill in Agartala, similar exercises will simultaneously take place in Jirania and Mohanpur subdivisions. Key components of the drill include a warning siren at 4:05 PM followed by a power cut, a response alert at 4:30 PM for medical and emergency teams, and a full-alert siren at 5:30 PM, after which security personnel will take action. A mock evacuation of injured participants from Umakanta Ground to GB Hospital will also be carried out.
The district administration has appealed for public cooperation to ensure the success of the exercise. FD SB
