Agartala, May 30 (FD) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) affiliated trade union, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Tripura State Committee, marked its 54th foundation day on Tuesday, urging people from all walks of life to unite against the dictatorial-communal and anti-worker policies of the BJP led government at the state and central levels.
During the event, senior CPIM leader and former minister, Manik Dey, emphasized CITU's ongoing struggle for the unity of the working class and the need to intensify the united struggle against class exploitation.
Dey strongly criticized the policies of the Modi-led central government, accusing it of being anti-worker and anti-people. He highlighted the plight of workers who, despite leading a life of dignity and working hard, suddenly found themselves homeless and reliant on charity during the COVID-19-induced lockdown. He attributed the hardships faced by the working class to the detrimental decisions made by the Modi government, which, according to Dey, maintained a close relationship with industrialists Adani and Ambani.
Furthermore, the leaders of CITU raised concerns regarding several issues, including the retrenchment of 10,323 teachers, wage cuts, increased working hours, unfulfilled promises of job regularization, irregularities in work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and other related matters.
The foundation day event served as a platform for CITU to mobilize public opinion against the BJP government's policies and to advocate for the rights and welfare of the working class. FD PD
