CITU demands improved railway services in Tripura, highlights people's suffering

Agartala, Jun 14 (FD) The lack of improvement in railway services in Tripura has become a cause of concern for the people, the state general secretary of CITU, Shankar Prasad Datta alleged.
In a press conference held at the CITU state headquarters, Datta highlighted the need for improvements and demanded action from the Northeast Frontier Railway.
Datta emphasized the lack of initiative in establishing a double railway line from Dharmanagar to Agartala, causing significant time wastage for the people. He called for immediate action to address this issue and ensure a more efficient transportation system.
Furthermore, He said the discontinuation of direct rail services between Sabroom and Dharmanagar. CITU demanded the resumption of daily train services from Dharmanagar to Silchar, which were reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The union also urged the Ministry of Railways to consider electrifying railway services and increasing the number of coaches to accommodate the growing passenger demand.
Datta pointed out the inconvenience faced by residents of South Tripura, Gomati, and Sepahijala districts who must travel to Agartala to catch express trains. He urged the authorities to introduce express trains from Sabroom, easing the burden on commuters.
CITU state president Manik Dey criticised the delay in completing the railway line at the Akhaura border, which was expected to be finished by 2019 but remain incomplete. Dey expressed disappointment over the lack of a dual-gauge border, leading to potential difficulties for the people.
CITU's state General Secretary, Shankar Prasad Datta, announced plans to visit Maligaon in Guwahati to present these demands to the General Manager of Northeast Railway Frontier. FD SB JK
