Chief Minister urges citizens to adopt plastic-free lifestyle and promote tree plantations for a Greener Future

Agartala, Jun 5 (FD) In a strong bid to protect the environment and combat pollution, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has called upon the people of Tripura to embrace a plastic-free lifestyle. Participating in a tree plantation and cleaning drive programme on World Environment Day at Maharajganj Bazar in Agartala, the Chief Minister stressed the need to take care of our surroundings. With the slogan 'Beat Plastic Pollution' for this year's World Environment Day, the harmful effects of plastic on the environment were brought to the forefront.
The government aims to replace plastic by 2022 and has introduced cloth bags and biodegradable alternatives. The Chief Minister emphasised the collective ban on plastic usage while highlighting the significance of tree plantations in reducing pollution and maintaining ecological balance.
During the event, the Chief Minister urged citizens to actively participate in the tree plantation drive and emphasised the importance of refraining from cutting trees. The government is actively involved in plantation efforts and will continue to prioritise them in the future. Recognising the crucial role of trees in reducing pollution and preserving ecological balance, the Chief Minister urged everyone to plant as many trees as possible.
The state of Tripura boasts a forest cover that spans two-thirds of its area, contributing to a better environment and lower pollution levels compared to other states. To ensure sustainable tree management, the government has directed forest officials to adopt a balanced approach.
The tree plantation and cleaning drive programme witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including Agartala Pur Nigam Mayor Deepak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, and other dignitaries. With the government's proactive measures and the collective efforts of the citizens, Tripura aims to pave the way towards a greener and more sustainable future. FD SB
