Char Dham Yatra Suspended For Today Due To Heavy Rain Forecast In Uttarakhand

The State Weather Department in Uttarakhand has issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall across several districts in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions today. According to a special press release, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many places, with extremely heavy rainfall predicted in isolated areas of the Kumaon region. Additionally, Chamoli and Pauri districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall possible in isolated places.
Conversely, an orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Rudarpryag and Uttarkashi districts of Uttarakhand.
In response to the red alert, the Char Dham Yatra has been suspended for today. Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shanker Pandey has advised pilgrims planning to undertake the Char Dham Yatra not to commence their journey from Rishikesh today. Those who have already reached their pilgrimage destinations are advised to remain there due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed all District Magistrates in the concerned districts to remain on high alert following the Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the state. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to maintain 24/7 readiness of district and tehsil administrations for relief and rescue operations in case of any disasters.
