Agartala, July 5 (FD) The Central Government has approved 56 rural road projects covering a total length of 74.51 kilometres under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV, Batch-I for the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency. The projects, with an estimated cost of Rs 96.73 crore, aim to provide all-weather road connectivity to 56 rural habitations, improving access to essential services and boosting socio-economic development.
The approval was communicated through an official letter dated June 24, 2026, from Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan to West Tripura Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb.
In his communication, the Union Minister noted that the sanctioned projects would strengthen rural infrastructure, enhance connectivity, and contribute to Tripura’s overall socio-economic progress. He also emphasized the need for timely completion of the projects while ensuring the highest standards of construction quality.
Welcoming the approval, MP Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for their support in securing the projects.
"I sincerely thank Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for approving 56 rural road projects covering 74.51 kilometres under PMGSY-IV (Batch-I) for the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency," Deb said.
He described the sanction as another milestone in the state's development journey, attributing it to the Prime Minister's vision and the coordinated efforts of the Centre and the state government under the "Double Engine" governance model.
According to Deb, the projects will ensure year-round road connectivity for 56 rural settlements, making transportation safer and more reliable while improving access to education, healthcare, markets, and other public services. He added that better road infrastructure would also facilitate the movement of agricultural produce, stimulate local economic activity, and create new opportunities for rural communities.
"The approval of these projects reflects the Government's unwavering commitment to inclusive rural development. I am confident that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura will continue to witness rapid infrastructure growth and comprehensive socio-economic transformation," the MP said.
The sanctioned road projects are expected to benefit thousands of residents across the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency by enhancing connectivity, improving mobility, and supporting long-term rural development. FD JK
