Centre sanctions Rs. 273.46 crore for expansion of AGMC: CM Manik Saha

Agartala, May 15 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday announced that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned Rs 273.46 crore for the expansion and infrastructure development of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), a move expected to significantly strengthen medical education and healthcare services in the state.
According to the Chief Minister, the sanctioned amount will facilitate the addition of 100 MBBS seats and 83 postgraduate seats in 19 critical and specialty disciplines from the academic session 2026–27.
Sharing the development on social media platform X, Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda for approving the funds.

I would like to thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri J.P. Nadda Ji for sanctioning Rs 273.46 crore for infrastructure development of Agartala Government Medical College,” the Chief Minister stated.
Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, said that with the proposed increase, Tripura will have a total of 550 MBBS seats and 196 postgraduate seats, which he described as a record rise over the past four years.
“We are committed to improving healthcare services for citizens as well as enhancing medical education opportunities for young aspirants in the state,” he said.
Later, speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said the Centre has been continuously extending financial support to accelerate the state’s development across sectors, particularly healthcare and education. FD JK
