Agartala, June 19 (FD) The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted the State Government’s proposal for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania in Udaipur, Gomati district.
The proposed institution has been granted acceptance for further processing with an annual intake capacity of 60 seats in the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course from the academic session 2026–27, paving the way for the establishment of the state's first government-run Ayurvedic medical college.
According to an official communication issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NCISM on June 18, 2026, the application submitted by the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Tripura Government has been accepted under the provisions of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020. The proposal seeks permission to establish a new Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania, Udaipur, marking a major milestone in the state's efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand opportunities in higher medical education.
Welcoming the development, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha described the acceptance of the proposal as a landmark achievement for Tripura.
“The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026–27,” the Chief Minister said.
Expressing gratitude to the Central Government, Dr. Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the expansion of healthcare and medical education across the country.
“My heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and unwavering support in strengthening healthcare and medical education nationwide,” he said.
The establishment of the college is expected to significantly reduce the need for students from Tripura to pursue Ayurvedic education outside the state. It will also help develop a skilled workforce of Ayurvedic practitioners and researchers, in line with the Government of India's growing emphasis on integrative and holistic healthcare systems. FD JK
