CBI seizes computers used in chit fund cases
By Firstdespatch Desk Apr 06, 2023
Agartala, April 06 (FD) A CBI team has arrived in Agartala to investigate financial fraud and deception by different chit fund companies across the state.
There were once 35 chit funds or non-banking financial companies operating in the state, including Rose Valley and Sarda, but the issue became embroiled in controversy in 2013, and the then-state government was forced to register cases and shut them down.
Following a public outcry and commotion caused by the opposition, the then-left-wing administration handed over the investigation to the CBI. According to police sources, one of the chit fund companies was Ikore, and the CBI team came here yesterday in connection with the investigation into the case against Ikore.
According to police sources, soon after arriving here, a CBI team led by Debendra Kumar Arya went to the west Agartala police station and seized nine central processing units (CPI) of the nine computers in police custody. In addition, other materials in police possession were seized and removed by the CBI team.
According to sources, the CBI team will thoroughly investigate the cases against 34 other chit funds in addition to the case against the now-defunct Ikore chit fund, for which they were sent to this location. Police sources were unable to provide more information on the matter, and CBI representatives refrained from speaking to the public. FD SB JK
