Cattle smuggling case: TMC leader Anubrata Mondal remanded to fresh two-week jail

Asansol/UNI: A special court here Saturday ordered a fresh two-week jail remand for Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Aug 11 last in connection with the alleged cattle smuggling case, official sources said .
The CBI special court judge (Asansol) of this West Bardhaman district, Rajesh Chakraborty, after hearing the arguments and counter arguments, told the court for two weeks more jail remand for Mondal.
The judge said the next hearing would be held on Nov 11.
The judge, however, told the CBI counsels to expedite investigation.
The CBI has already submitted a 35-page charge-sheet against TMCs Birbhum district wing president Anubrata Mondal.
The CBI had submitted the chargesheet before special vacation Judge Ratna Roy Biswas in its court in Asansol.
In the chargesheet, the CBI made references to deeds of 53 properties linked to Anubrata Mondal, allegedly traced during the probe, apart from fixed deposits worth Rs 18 crore, sources added.
The CBI charged Mondal with abetment and criminal conspiracy and also under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, the agency sources said.
