Budget for 2023-24 to be presented on the opening day of Monsoon Assembly Session

Agartala, July 03 (FD) Budget for the 2023-24 fiscal of Tripura would be tabled on the first day of the four-day monsoon session of the state Assembly beginning on July 7, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen said.
“Budget for the 2023-24 financial year would be tabled on the opening day of the monsoon session starting on July 7. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy could not present the budget in March as the assembly elections were held in February and March”, the speaker told reporters.
Sen said that two bills - the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Tripura Appreciation bills will be tabled in the session.
The finance minister said that the state has set a revenue target of Rs 3,000 crore this year adding that the state's tax collection has doubled after the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Singha Roy said, in the last financial year the state has collected Rs 2,765 crore taxes, which was around Rs 1,300 crore before GST was introduced in the state.
“This year we aim to collect over Rs 3,000 crore and are trying to connect new tax payers who still remain outside the GST domain. GST is required for carrying out development works”, he added. FD JK
