BSF jawan found dead along highway, police probe underway

Agartala, June 20 (FD) The recovery of a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan's body from a roadside area in Tripura's Mohanpur subdivision has triggered concern among local residents and security personnel alike.

The deceased was identified as Nimai Mandal, a jawan of the 42nd Battalion of the BSF and a native of a village under Nabagram Police Station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

According to police sources, local residents spotted an unconscious man lying beside the national highway at Fatikcherra Tulabagan under Mohanpur on Friday and immediately informed the Lefunga Police Station. A police team rushed to the spot and shifted the individual to Mohanpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Subsequent verification established the deceased's identity as BSF jawan Nimai Mandal. Preliminary observations revealed multiple injuries on the body.

Investigators suspect that the jawan may have been struck by a speeding vehicle while on or near the highway. However, officials said the exact cause of death can only be determined after a detailed post-mortem examination.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Mohanpur, Ashish Dasgupta, visited the recovery site and supervised the collection of evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The untimely death of the BSF personnel has cast a pall of gloom over both the local community and BSF circles in the Fatikcherra area. Following the post-mortem examination, the body will be handed over to family members and sent to his native home in Murshidabad district of West Bengal for the last rites. FD JK
