Agartala, Feb 15 (FD) Four Bangladeshis, including three women, have been detained from the Teliamura railway station in Tripura’s Khowai district, sources in BSF said on Saturday.
“Acting on a tip-off the anti-human trafficking unit of BSF detained four Bangladeshis including three women, at Teliamura Railway station when they were deboarding from the Silchar-Agartala Express last evening”, the official said.
“They were apprehended by BSF, when they were getting down in the rail station after returning from Bengaluru. They will be grilled by BSF officials and then handed over to Tripura police for necessary legal action,” the official said.
The BSF jawans also thwarted an attempt of a group of smugglers to throw a consignment over the border fencing at Kullubari in Sepahijala district on Friday.
The packets contained yaba tablets worth Rs.2 crore, the BSF sources said.
In a separate incident a joint operation by Agartala GRPS, BSF, RPF, and the Intelligence Department, a Bangladeshi woman and an Indian middleman were arrested at Agartala Railway Station for illegal border crossing. The middleman, identified as Arabjan Sheikh (36) from Murshidabad, assisted Taslima Akter (24) from Comilla, Bangladesh, in entering India illegally.
During questioning, the accused admitted they were heading to Murshidabad. A case has been registered at Agartala GRP police station, and both will be presented before the Honorable Court today.
During a routine check at Jogendra Nagar Railway Station, security forces discovered two unclaimed bags containing 21 packets of dry ganja, weighing approximately 19 kg. The contraband, valued at ₹2 lakh, was seized as per legal procedures. Agartala GRP police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the smuggling. FD JK
