Agartala, Sep 20 (FD) Tripura Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty on Tuesday disqualified IPFT MLA Brishaketu Debbarma from the membership of Tripura Legislative Assembly (TLA) for voluntarily giving up membership of IPFT.
Addressing a press conference the Speaker said, “After considering everything I have decided that Brishaketu Debbarma, who was elected as MLA in the 2018 Assembly elections of the state on IPFT ticket, is disqualified from his post under the mandate of Paragraph (2) (1) (A) of 10th schedule of India constitution.”
According to Chakraborty, Brishaketu Debbarma will not be able to participate in any elections in the state before completion of the tenure of the present government.
Election commission will decide whether Debbarma would be eligible to participate in the next assembly elections or not, the Speaker said.
However, earlier, in Jun last year the MLA had sent his resignation letter by post which is not acceptable, he said.
The Assembly Speaker said, “Brishaketu Debbarma does not know that one member of the house can not submit his resignation like this. He should have come physically and handed over his resignation to the speaker, but he had not gone through this process.”
At the same time when a member of a party, who was elected with a party symbol or nomination, he can not violate any whip of the party.
However, he also submitted his resignation to IPFT party last year on which ticket he became an MLA in 2018 and the party accepted his resignation then.
Debbarma then took over the party flag of the TIPRA Motha, led by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya, which swept the Tripura tribal council polls in April last year. FD PD JK
