Agartala, Jun 27 (FD) In a significant development, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a crucial commandant-level meeting on Monday, addressing various challenges faced by both sides. However, the pressing issue of Rohingya infiltration emerged as the focal point, commanding the highest priority during discussions.
Both countries acknowledged the detrimental impact of the growing presence of Rohingya in the region and expressed concerns over the refugees' refusal to remain within designated camps. Alarmed by this new trend, the Bangladesh government underscored the escalating involvement of refugees in criminal activities, with a majority of them seeking refuge in India.
Of particular concern was the emergence of a new network of human traffickers operating on both sides of the border, facilitating the infiltration of Rohingya into India. It was observed that a significant number of refugees were entering India through Tripura, subsequently dispersing to various parts of the country.
To address this pressing issue, both sides agreed to intensify border vigilance. The Indian delegation emphasized the importance of constructing barbed wire fencing along the border and sought assistance from the Bangladeshi side in expediting this pending measure.
While several other challenges were also discussed in the meeting, both India and Bangladesh pledged to tackle them jointly, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts and cooperation.
The commandant-level meeting between the BSF and BGB has set the stage for increased coordination and collaboration in addressing the Rohingya infiltration issue, ensuring enhanced border security and regional stability. FD SB
