Agartala, Aug 1 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday called upon people, particularly the youth, to make voluntary blood donation a regular social responsibility, stating that donating blood is one of the noblest services to humanity and helps build a compassionate and healthier society.
The Chief Minister made the remarks after inaugurating a blood donation camp organised by Agiye Chalo Sangha at Melarmath in Agartala.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said a new wave of awareness regarding voluntary blood donation has emerged across Tripura. Besides its humanitarian significance, blood donation also creates a unique and lasting bond between the donor and the recipient, he said, urging more citizens to come forward and participate in such life-saving initiatives.
"Blood donation is one of the brightest examples of service to humanity. Through a single donation, one can save another person's life. Society, especially the younger generation, should regularly donate blood to help build a healthy and caring community," the Chief Minister said.
Congratulating the organisers and donors, Dr. Saha praised their humanitarian commitment and appealed to clubs, social organisations and voluntary groups across the state to organise more blood donation camps. He also stressed the need for proper preservation and management of collected blood so that blood banks remain adequately stocked to meet emergency requirements.
Highlighting changing social trends, the Chief Minister observed that while club culture was once associated with unruly activities, clubs in Tripura are now actively contributing to social welfare in a disciplined manner. He also appreciated the increasing participation of women in community service activities, describing it as a positive development for society.
Dr. Saha further said the present state government has brought significant improvements to Tripura's healthcare infrastructure, benefiting both rural and urban residents. As a result, the number of patients being referred to hospitals outside the state has steadily declined.
Earlier, in a message shared on the occasion, the Chief Minister described blood donation as one of the highest forms of humanitarian service and lauded the organisers and voluntary donors for their noble initiative. He reiterated that regular blood donation by citizens, particularly the youth, would help foster a healthier, more compassionate society.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Ward No. 34 Corporator Jahnavi Das also appreciated the social initiatives undertaken by Agiye Chalo Sangha. The organisation's Secretary Sumanta Gupta and President Chanchal Nandi addressed the programme.
As part of the event, three sanitation workers from AMC Wards 32 and 34 were felicitated for their dedicated service. The Chief Minister presented each of them with a cheque of Rs. 5,000 in recognition of their contribution. He later visited the blood donation camp along with other dignitaries and encouraged the voluntary donors. FD SB
