Agartala, Jan 18 (FD) In a new twist to the Tripura’s electoral politics, IPFT President Prem Kumar Reang has agreed to sit with royal scion and TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma on the issue of seat sharing for the February 16 elections in Tripura.
Earlier, Debbarma had proposed for unification between his party and the IPFT, the coalition partner of the ruling BJP.
In a letter to working president of IPFT and minister for tribal welfare Prem Kumar Reang, Debbarma has recalled how the party had struggled for ‘Tipraland’ state since the year 2009 under constitutional provisions and how they still have ‘Tipraland’ as the main political goal .
He said that unless the tribal people (‘TIPRSA) unite under a single umbrella they would be extinct.
“Fundamentally there is no difference between our two parties in the matter of political goals and the in the interest of indigenous people both parties can work together; there cannot be any consideration other than protecting the interests of the indigenous people” said Pradyot.
He has also said that indigenous leaders should not be drawn into positions of power and fall for allurements that will be offered by other parties and there should be no deviation from the stated goals of ‘Tipraland’ or ‘Greater Tipraland’.
He finally said that his purpose is to unite IPFT and ‘Tipra Motha’ in the interest of the future of indigenous people. “The future of parties is not important as interests of indigenous people cannot be undermined” said Pradyot.
Responding to his call, Reang wrote to the royal scion that he is ready for talks at the convenient date and time fixed by Deb Barma.
It came as a surprising move to the political observers that even being an ally of the ruling BJP, why the IPFT responded to the call of Tipra Motha. FD JK
