Agartala, Sept 27 (FD) An alleged clash between supporters of the BJP and Tipra Motha has been reported from Ramraibari village under the Jolaibari police station area of Santir Bazar subdivision, a day ahead of polling for 587 Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
According to local sources, a group of Tipra Motha supporters, allegedly led by Jamal Mia and others, entered the residence of BJP workers Jahira Khatun and her brother Nasir Mia and allegedly assaulted them. The attackers reportedly questioned their association with the BJP and allegedly threatened them with displacement from their home.
Following the incident, Jahira Khatun and Nasir Mia were taken to the Jolaibari Community Health Centre by relatives and fellow BJP workers for treatment. They later spoke to media persons at the health centre and alleged that Tipra Motha had mobilised youths from the plains, including Muslim supporters, to target BJP workers in the area.
The siblings subsequently submitted a written complaint at Jolaibari police station, naming the alleged attackers and providing other details of the incident.
Police action in the case was not immediately clear, while sources said the alleged accused had left the area following the incident.
The incident comes amid preparations for the September 28 Village Committee elections, in which political parties and candidates have been campaigning across the ADC areas. FD JK
