BJP-Tipra Motha Alliance Possible for Village Council Polls: Saha

Agartala, Aug 16 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday indicated that an electoral alliance between the BJP and Tipra Motha could be possible for the upcoming Village Council elections, saying discussions between the two parties are currently underway.

Speaking to reporters, Saha said talks were being held from the BJP’s side regarding a possible alliance. He noted that the two parties are already alliance partners and suggested that developments and differences witnessed during the previous TTAADC elections should now be treated as a matter of the past.

“Talks are on and I cannot say that it cannot happen,” the Chief Minister said, keeping the possibility of an electoral understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha open.

Saha stressed that the BJP’s door remains open for an alliance and asserted that the party does not walk away from its alliances. He, however, added that if any alliance partner decides to leave, there is little the BJP can do about it.

“There are high chances of an alliance in the Village Council election,” Saha said, indicating that seat-sharing and other aspects of a possible understanding could be discussed in the coming days.

The remarks come amid ongoing political discussions over the forthcoming Village Council elections, with both parties assessing their electoral strategies in the tribal areas of the state. FD JK
