Agartala, Feb 11 (FD) Politburo member of CPI(M) and veteran communist leader Prakash Karat on Saturday came down heavily on the ruling BJP, saying that the saffron party is not running a double engine government but it is running a government of double exploitation.
Addressing a poll rally at Barjala in support of CPIM candidate, Karat said, “Addressing poll rallies in two separate places of the state Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highlighted various works under taken by the ruling BJP for the state in which he hailed the success of the double engine government, but for me it’s not double engine government for development but a rule of a double exploitation government.”
The Modi-led central government's policies are against democracy and they are favoring the people from corporate class or top businessmen in the country, who are exploiting people that we are witnessing, he asserted.
While the other engine which has been ruling the state for the past five years is actually exploiting and looting in the state, Karat said.
Criticizing the union government on the election promise made by the party before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, which included providing 2 crore jobs every year, Karat said, instead of 2 crore jobs, many working employees have lost their jobs since 2014.
Besides, the number of unemployed youths has increased in the country to an all time high since independence, he added.
He claimed that the democracy of the state has been tried to be demolished in the past five years.
Karat said that this election is the most important for the state and the country in terms of protecting the constitution and democracy.
He expressed his concern over fair elections and said that the opposition parties have continuously visited the Election Commissioner's office with requests to ensure a fair election in the state.
Leaders of both CPI(M) and Congress were present in the public rally. FD PD JK
