BJP returns to power in Tripura for the second time

Agartala, Mar 2 (FD): The BJP-IPFT alliance in Tripura secured absolute majority by winning 33 seats in the 60-member assembly today.
Announcing the results, the Election Commission of India declared that the ruling BJP won in 32 seats and its ally IPFT won in one seat.
The Tipra Motha, the newly formed tribal based party, which contested in 42 seats bagged 13 seats, while the Left-Congress alliance secured 14.
The Tipra Motha, led by the royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, which rules the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) had surfaced strongly in the tribal dominated areas with their separate greater Tipraland demand could make considerable headway in CPI(M)’s tribal base.
In the 2018 elections the BJP-IPFT alliance secured (36+8) 44 seats this time their margin reduced to (32+1) 33 because Tipra Motha did well in the tribal compact areas.
The BJP secured 38.97 percent votes by winning 32 seats out of 55 seats it contested, when the IPFT, which was ravaged by factional feud, secured only 1.26 percent votes.
The maximum loser was the CPI(M), whose tally reduced to 11 seats from 16 in the last assembly election held in 2018 .
Chief Minister, Manik Saha, who won from the town Bardwali constituency has congratulated people of Tripura for bringing them back to power for the second time.
He stated that the BJP’s victory was the result of the ‘good governance and developments’ in the north eastern state. FD JK
