Agartala, Jan 29 (FD) CPI-M coordinator, Prakash Karat on Wednesday slammed the ruling BJP on the plea that murdering democracy is deep-seated in the party’s DNA as it puts opposition leaders behind the bar on framed up charges before the elections.
Addressing a large gathering here before the 24th state conference of the party, Karat said, “It has become a habit of the Modi Government to put opposition leaders behind the bars or attacking the opposition parties before elections”.
“The government had sent the former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal was sent to jail before the last years Lok Sabha elections. He is not alone, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren had also the same fate as he was put behind the bars before elections”, Karat added.
He also mentioned that murdering democracy and its values exists in the BJP’s DNA as it; during its decade long regime had always tried to murder the parliamentary democracy in the country.
Karat said, “This only shows the condition of the parliamentary democracy when the BJP Government in Tripura does not allow Swami Vivekananda Maidan as a venue for the main opposition party to hold a meeting in the state”.
The open session of the party began with the commencement of the state party conference.
He also alleged that the opposition political party workers were being attacked in different parts of the state ever since the BJP came to power in 2018.
“More you attack us more we will rise up. Even if there is only one person in our party will fight communalism as the ruling party was indulging in communal clashes”, he added.
Karat said that the BJP government was destroying the secular fabric of the country and are also striking at the root of the economy by extending liberal assistance to corporates like Adani, Ambani, Tata and Birla.
The BJP is extending liberal patronage to the big corporate, whose huge debts from banks are being exempted while small entrepreneurs and farmers are committing suicides, he said.
“Now one percent people control 40 percent of the country’s wealth, which has created discrimination between the poor and the riches.
Among others, West Bengal CPI-M leader Robin Deb, party’s politburo member Manik Sarkar and state party Secretary Jiten Chowdhury also delivered their lectures. The party conference would end on Jan 31st. FD JK
