Agartala, Apr 13 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that early ground reports indicate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to perform well in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, while urging all political parties to maintain peace during the counting process.
The remarks came after a meeting with BJP leaders to review the elections held across 28 seats on April 12. Saha said the party has been carrying out daily assessments based on feedback from candidates and organisational teams.
“Reports were collected from candidates and cluster teams regarding the expected vote share. As per the reports, the results appear to be in our favour; however, the final outcome will be clear only after the official declaration,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that inputs from polling agents were also analysed as part of a sample study. He said preparations for counting day, including movement, accommodation, and training of counting agents, were discussed during the meeting.
With regard to demands for re-polling in certain booths, Saha said BJP candidates have submitted requests but the final decision lies with the Tripura State Election Commission. “If re-polls are held, we are prepared. The Commission is responsible for maintaining law and order during elections, and we have extended all necessary support,” he said.
Highlighting the need to curb political violence, Saha referred to incidents reported in states like West Bengal and Kerala, as well as past instances in Tripura. “Such practices must be eliminated to ensure a healthy democratic environment. People want peace and do not support violence,” he said.
He appealed to all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful counting process and said BJP workers have been instructed to refrain from violence and avoid provocative statements.
The TTAADC elections witnessed significant voter participation, with results scheduled to be announced on April 17. FD JK
