Agartala, Jan 14(FD) There is nothing to worry for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding pre-poll alliance between opposition CPIM and Congress in Tripura, BJP spokesperson and Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference at the state BJP Election Office here, Chowdhury said, “In order to grab power in the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura, the opposition parties, who were once political rivals in the state are making alliance to mislead the people of the state. But the BJP need not worry as the ruling party will win this election in response to the welfare work undertaken in the state since coming to power in 2018."
Taking a swipe on Congress leadership for initiating the proposal of making alliance with their l long-time political rival in Tripura, CPIM, he said, “Congress and CPIM used to accuse each other of political violence, now they are planning to join hands by making pre-poll alliance to fight against BJP.”
Chowdhury claimed that the people of the state will not accept the alliance as they have witnessed several incidents of political violence during the parties’ regime in the state.
Pointing out several incidents of murders, exploitation and attacks on Congress workers in the past allegedly by then ruling CPIM activists, Chowdhury said, activists of Congress in the state will not accept the decision as they suffered a lot during the 25 years of CPIM regime in the state. On other hand CPIM leaders also brought several allegations of crime perpetrated on their supporters in the past, he added.
Chaudhary, who also holds the Ministry of Information and Cultural Department in the BJP-IPFT coalition government in Tripura, said the Congress leadership had failed to defeat the CPIM in Tripura for 25 years since 1993, but BJP under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi succeeded in ousting the CIPM in the state in 2018 elections.
He also claimed that the people of the country would never accept the Left party in future and criticized the Congress leadership's decision to ally with the CPIM in Tripura.
Chowdhury also claimed that the alliance would not bring any fruitful results for the two parties in the ensuing elections due in February next. FD PD JK
