Agartala, Oct 2 (FD) The ruling BJP in Tripura on Wednesday expelled its state Vice-President and fire brand tribal leader for her anti-party activities, party sources said.
“Patal Kanya Jamatia, the vice president of the (Tripura) BJP, has been expelled from the party’s primary membership due to anti party activities and indiscipline. The decision was taken following instruction from BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee,” a statement issued by the party said.
Jamatiya, a open critique of the Supremo of the Tipra Motha, Pradyot Kishore Dev Barma, tribal based party and ally of the ruling BJP.
She had floated Tripura People’s Socialist Party (TPSP), a new political party on Monday last.
She joined the BJP ahead of the 2023 assembly elections and fought the last assembly election on a BJP ticket from the Amapinagar constituency and lost miserably.
However, BJP appointed her as the chairman of Tripura Rehabilitation and Plantation Corporation Ltd (TRPCL).
In a face book post, she commented that the BJP party did not inform her about the expulsion, but it became viral in the social media. She also questioned if the party had consulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as she joined BJP for them only.
The saffron party’s media spokesperson, Sunit Sarkar said party sent a show cause notice to her and she had replied and after that this decision was taken.
After floating the new party on Monday, she expressed her dissentients saying that earlier, when the TPF was working as an NGO all the workers joined the BJP, but did not get opportunities within the party.
She also pointed out that after the TIPRA Motha joined the government and it got two ministerial berths, contested the recent Lok Sabha poll on the BJP’s symbol, but no one pointed finger at them. FD JK
