BJP announces to contest by-elections, candidate list to be announced on Aug 16

Agartala, Aug 14 (FD) The ruling BJP in Tripura today said that the party would contest in the by-elections for two constituencies – Dhanpur and Boxanagar in Sepahijala district and the candidates list would be announced on Aug 14.

Addressing a press conference at the party office here, state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya said the meeting of the election committee was held in presence of BJP NE coordinator Sambit Patra and it was decided that the candidates list would be announced on August 16.

He said the candidates will submit nominations on the last date of filing nominations on Aug 17.

Among others the meeting was attended by BJP Tripura president Rajib Bhattacharya, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Union Minister of State for Social Justice Pratima Bhoumik.

Nath, who is also a prominent leader of the party said, “We are confident of winning both the seats as the opposition CPI-M has lost its base due to anti-people activity”.

The opposition CPI-M has already announced the names of its candidates and it is presumed that the by-elections will witness a direct fight between BJP and CPI-M. FD JK
