Agartala, Sept 16 (FD) The political parties in Tripura including the ruling BJP and its opponent Tipra Motha, both have geared up their party machineries to launch a campaign for the next Parliamentary elections scheduled to be held early next year.
The Tripura unit of the BJP will launch its campaign for Lok Sabha from tomorrow with the celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday on September 17, the Media in-charge of the party Sunit Sarkar said.
The celebration of the PM's birthday has been named Namo Vikas Utsav and various programmes will be organized on the occasion, he said.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the unparalleled leader in the country and immensely loved by the people of Tripura. We want him to be sworn in as the PM for the third consecutive term. The BJP will intensify the campaign for the Lok Sabha polls with this event," Sarkar said.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and party President Rajib Bhattacharjee have already held several rounds of meetings with the Pristha Promukhs and other district level leaders for making the celebration of the birth day of the Prime Minister a grand success.
On September 17, the day will commence with a yoga session on Kumarghat PWD Ground in Unakoti district to be attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, his cabinet colleagues and senior party leaders from Delhi and Tripura.
“After the patriotic address by the Chief Minister and noted social activists volunteers clad in 'NaMo' T-shirts will engage in a cleanliness drive in the area," he said.
As PM turning 73 on September 17, a total of 73 priority households will receive PG ration cards, while 73 copies of Bhagavad Gita will be distributed among students and 73 persons with disabilities will receive aids during the event at Kumarghat, he said.
“We will organize many programmes on the day in different parts of the state and thousands of party activists and leaders will participate in the programs”, Sarkar added.
Meanwhile, the Tipra Motha, the main opposition party in the state has constituted its Central Working Committee consisting of a six member’s delegation.
On X formerly known as Twitter, Royal Scion of the state and former chairman of the party Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Saturday wrote that in the next few weeks, he will work to strengthen and constitute the party from primary to central committee.
“I am indeed honoured and humbled. I will do my duties to strengthen and constitute the party from primary, regional ,block, district and central committee in the next few weeks”, he said.
The Central Working Committee (CEC) comprises president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, the royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya, Chairman of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Jagadish Debbarma, Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma, former minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia and MLA Brishaketu Debbarma.
The announcement came after party’s former leader Sridam Debbarma and party functionary Dinesh Debbarma alleged that the Tipra Motha was run by a single man as it had no full-fledged state committee on Friday last.
Sridam Debbarma had quit the party on the day and joined Tipraland State Party.
He said, “TSP had jointly contested the elections of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) under the Tipra Motha banner and succeeded. Now we need to revive our own party which was floated before the Tipra Motha. Our main motto is to achieve Tipraland by carving out the tribal council”.
In the sixty member Tripura assembly, the BJP has 33 members and its ally IPFT has one seat, while the opposition Tipramotha has 13 seats, Congress 3 and the CPI-M has 10 members. FD JK
