Agartala, Mar 14(FD) An activist of ruling BJP had succumbed to his injuries on Monday as a result of post-poll violence, who was a residence of Kunjaban near here.
The victim, identified as Tapan Kumar Bhowmik was allegedly attacked by his political rivals of the opposition camp on March 2, when he was returning home on the day of counting of votes of the February 16 elections in the state.
The event incited intense discontent among BJP workers, who then blocked a route in the Gurkhabasti neighborhood to stop traffic on the VIP lane.
However, the obstruction was removed later in the last afternoon thanks to the efforts of the police administration and former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma. The police convinced followers of the ruling party that stern actions would be taken against the offenders.
Bhowmik suffered serious brain injuries, according to the information that is currently available. On March 2, the attackers randomly used sharp knives to attack deceased.
Bhowmik received emergency medical attention at the GBP hospital. To preserve his life, a crucial procedure was also done. On Monday afternoon, though, he passed away.
Sudip Sarkar of the CPI-M won the assembly constituency of Barjala, which is on the outskirts of the city of Agartala.
Hundreds of party members from the Barjala assembly constituency flocked to the hospital to pay homage to him. Subsequently, to demand punishment against the criminals guilty of the murders, the resentful party members set up a blockade in the Gurkhabasti neighborhood.
Jishnu Dev Varma, a former deputy chief minister, raced to the scene to calm the tension and attempt to appease the protesters.
The party workers were given the assurance that all criminals would be apprehended shortly by SDPO New Capital Complex Paramita Pandey. The roadblock was eventually removed by the workers, allowing traffic to flow once more.
