Biplab Deb's recruitment advertisement sparks controversy over language requirements

Agartala, July 10 (FD) In a move that has triggered a heated debate, supporters of Chief Minister Biplab Deb have released an advertisement, numbered NO-02/2016, for the recruitment of junior engineers.
This advertisement, unlike previous guidelines, does not require applicants to produce the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or prove their knowledge of the local languages, Bengali or 'Kokborok'. The decision has drawn criticism from leaders of the previous left front government who argue that such requirements are essential for protecting the interests of local residents.
A senior CPI (M) leader pointed out that while some states overlook the need for PRC or language proficiency in public service commission exams, others make it an essential requirement.
For instance, in Assam, outside applicants must possess a PRC for ten years and knowledge of Assamese, while Sikkim conducts a separate exam on Sikkimese language and culture to protect the interests of the local population.
Former ministers and senior left front members emphasized the importance of the PRTC, which was previously made mandatory for Group-III and IV recruitments.
Senior leaders from the left front expressed concerns about this decision, highlighting the negative impact it has had on the state's youth.
However, they praised Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha's recent decision to reinstate the mandatory requirement of PRTC, considering it a welcome and positive step towards addressing the issue.
