Agartala, Sep 10 (FD): Hours after former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb was appointed as BJP in-charge for Haryana, he was named as the candidate for the lone Rajyasabha seat in the state.
The seat fell vacant after the incumbent Chief Minister Manik Sahas resigned after he was elected as an MLA from Town Bardowali constituency.
According to a communiqué issued by BJPs national general secretary Arun Singh on Friday night, Debs name was approved by the party’s Central Election Committee for the RS bypolls from Tripura.
Ecstatic over being made BJPs nominee, Deb expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Deb said he is committed to work for the development and welfare of Tripura and its people.
The by-elections will be held on Sept 22 from 9 am to 4 pm, and the counting of votes will take place the same day.
The last date of filing nomination is Sept 12.
Biplab Deb, who led the BJP to victory, decimating 25 years of Left rule till February, 2018, had earlier served for the party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Delhi.
Deb is expected to file his nomination paper on Monday, the last date.
The ruling BJP has 36 MLAs in the 60-member assembly while its ally IPFT has eight legislators. The CPI(M) has 15 MLAs and the Congress has one legislator. FD JK
